You Don’t Need a Crystal Grid to Be Spiritual (And Other Truths They Won’t Tell You)

If I see one more post about someone’s elaborate morning ritual involving sage, crystals arranged in sacred geometry, moon water, and a 90-minute meditation before they can “start their day energetically aligned,” I might actually scream!
Not because there’s anything wrong with those things if they genuinely light you up, I hasten to add.
But because somewhere along the way, spirituality got hijacked by performative ritual, and we’ve forgotten the most important truth:
You don’t need to do a damn thing to be connected to your intuition.
The Ritual Trap
Here’s what happens: You start getting curious about spirituality. Maybe your logic stops logic-ing in your business (you know what I mean). Maybe you’re hitting a ceiling that spreadsheets can’t explain. So you look for guidance.
And what do you find?
A sea of people telling you that to be “properly spiritual,” you need:
• A meditation practice (minimum 20 minutes daily, obviously)
• Crystals (cleansed under the full moon, naturally)
• Oracle cards (but only after you’ve smudged yourself)
• A morning routine that would make a monk exhausted
• Incense, candles, special cushions, sacred spaces…
And suddenly, accessing your intuition has become a part-time job.
What Spirituality Actually Is
Let me tell you what spirituality actually is, stripped of all the Instagram-worthy nonsense:
It’s listening.
That’s it.
It’s the moment you pause before sending that email and think, “Something feels off about this.”
It’s the inexplicable knowing that you should call your mum right now.
It’s the gut feeling about a business decision that makes no logical sense but feels deeply right.
It’s the quiet voice that says “not yet” when every metric is screaming “go!”
You already have this. You’ve always had this. You don’t need to buy, burn, or blessed-be anything to access it.
The Billion-Pound Spiritual Industry Doesn’t Want You to Know This
There’s a whole industry built on convincing you that spirituality is complicated. That you need courses, certifications, special tools, and secret knowledge to tap into something that is literally your birthright as a human being.
Your intuition is not behind a paywall.
Your connection to source/universe/God/whatever you want to call it is not dependent on whether you remembered to cleanse your crystals this month.
Your ability to receive guidance doesn’t require a 60-minute ritual before you can “access” it.
What Actually Matters
If rituals bring you joy, peace, or help you create a mental shift into receptivity then brilliant! Do them!
But if you’re a busy entrepreneur, a single parent, someone who barely has time to shower some days, let alone create an altar and perform a full moon ceremony, then let me tell you, you are not spiritually deficient.
You’re just being sold the idea that you are.
So what actually matters? Well, it's:
• Presence: Being here, now, in this moment
• Honesty: With yourself, about what you’re actually feeling and knowing
• Stillness: Even 30 seconds of pause counts
• Trust: In the information that comes when you stop trying so hard
That’s it.
That’s the whole thing.
How to Actually Connect (No Props Required)
Want to strengthen your intuitive connection?
Here’s the unglamorous truth. The entire practice from start to finish..
Stop. Breathe. Ask. Listen.
Done.
You can do it at your desk. In your car. While making dinner. Standing in the queue at Tesco.
Ask a question. Get quiet for literally 10 seconds. Notice what comes up; a feeling, a knowing, an image, a sense of direction.
Complete.
No candles required.
The Real Work
The real spiritual work isn’t about how elaborate your rituals are.
It’s about:
• Having the courage to trust what you’re receiving
• Acting on your intuition even when it doesn’t make logical sense
• Developing the discernment to know your own truth from the noise
• Building the boundaries to honor what you know
• Speaking your truth even when it’s uncomfortable
None of that requires a single ritual.
For the Skeptical, Practical Humans
If you’re someone who rolls your eyes at the fluffy spiritual stuff but you can’t deny that sometimes you just know things then you’re my people!
You don’t need to become someone you’re not to access your intuition.
You don’t need to adopt a spiritual aesthetic or persona.
You don’t need to suddenly start talking about your “energetic frequency” or “raising your vibration” (unless that genuinely resonates, in which case, go for it).
You just need to give yourself permission to trust that quiet knowing that’s always been there, waiting for you to stop drowning it out with rituals, doubt, and the need to do it “properly.”
The Truth
Your intuition is not impressed by your ritual game.
It’s not keeping score of how many times you meditated this week or whether you remembered to set intentions under the new moon.
It’s just there. Always there. Waiting for you to remember that you don’t need permission, initiation, or preparation to access it.
You just need to stop for a moment and listen.
That’s the whole thing.
Everything else?
Optional.
(And yes, that is a photo of my own altar where I'm burning Palo Santo; not because I should, but because I like to!)
