What If You're Not Sabotaging Yourself?
We’re very quick to call it self-sabotage.
You don’t post the thing. You delay the decision. You stay longer than you wanted to. You keep working even though you’re fucking exhausted.
And somewhere along the way, you decide that you’re the problem.
But what if the behaviour makes sense?
Protective Patterns™ is a framework I created to explore four ways protection can influence the choices we make:
Hiding - If I’m not seen, I’m safer.
Hesitating - If I don’t decide, I’m safer.
Hoarding - If I don’t let go, I’m safer.
Hustling - If I don’t stop, I’m safer.
These aren’t personality types. You’re not a Hider or a Hustler. You might experience different patterns in different areas of your life - sometimes more than one at the same time.
And the aim isn’t to get rid of them.
It’s to notice when protection might be influencing a choice that you want to make.
Because once you can see what’s happening, you have more information.
You can listen to the fear. You can listen to your intuition. You can look at what’s actually true.
And then you decide.
You might still wait. You might still say no. You might decide the protection is entirely appropriate.
Or you might choose to move while every part of you is screaming that you’re not ready yet.
That’s the bit I’m interested in.
Not becoming fearless.
Not endlessly fixing yourself.
Choosing consciously.
Because you don’t have to feel different before you choose different.
